Presently employed by Charleston County Emergency Preparedness Division and an active member of the Charleston County Volunteer Rescue Squad.  Shawn has extensive emergency services experience including Fire Service, EMS and Rescue.  And has experience in mounted equine SAR. Born in North Charleston (Charleston Navel Hospital, the old one) and raised as a navy brat around the country, he returned in his pre-teens.  Shawn is certified at the Sartech II Level, completed ADSAR and Managing the Lost Person through NASAR. His canine partner is Smartie Jones, a male Beagle.

K-9 Partner: Smartie Jones

Smartie is a trailing dog. Smartie, named after a famous race horse and his handlers favorite candy, loves the challenge of a search and his reward: FOOD!  When not doing search work, He is a crime fighter ("Under Dog"), Smartie enjoys playing hide and seek with kids around the stables and counting horses when he drives down the driveway to the barn.  He also enjoys hiking, geocaching and doing tricks for kids. His favorite trick is “Praise the Lord!”  His claim to fame is his performance at the 2008 Forsyth, Ga training seminar where he impressed the Blood Hound Handle / Instructor so much he wanted to steal him!
